Our Mission

Ka ‘Imi ‘Ike is an initiative at the University of Hawai‘i whose mission is to recruit and retain Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) to disciplines within the geosciences. Geoscience majors/topics include hydrology, geology, geophysics, meteorology, physical and chemical oceanography, environmental science, and physical geography.

Funding Sources

The Ka‘imi‘ike Program is funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), and through leadership from the Hawai‘i Biodiversity & Mapping Program and Na Pua No‘eau. The Ka‘imi‘ike Summer Internship Opportunity is partially supported by efforts from the UH Hilo PIPES Program.
