Summary

What: Integrating available information on Hawaiian near-shore waters to enable a comprehensive ecosystem conservation-planning framework for Hawai’i. (Species distribution, Community types, Rare occurrences...)

Where: All main Hawaiian islands from the coastline to 200 meters in depth.

Why: To create a complete database integrating all available information about Hawaii’s marine species within a GIS environment. This will make information easily accessible and linked with other data sets from government, university and private sources. Information sources include peer-reviewed literature, comprehensive data sets, and anecdotal data.

Who: Hawaii Natural Heritage Program with funding by Department of Aquatic Resources (DAR), NOAA, Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), US Fish and Wildlife, and support from many more.
